FOOD AND ART

Video Autumn 2020
The fun of combining painting what you eat and then cooking it is one of the best ways to appreciate the natural produce we have around us. Here we use watercolours and have a vegan lunch on our terrace over looking Monte Rosa.

I like to offer:

PAINTING
LEARNING ABOUT NATURE
COOKING

Our over a 100 year Liberty villa with sunny terraces and private garden are ideal for teaching. The house is in a very quiet street with private parking.
My classes are for small groups of children starting at the age of 7 and adults.
The classes are n English but I can speak Italian and French fluently with a smattering of German!

Painting classes are theme focused. For each of the 4 Seasons I concentrate on the fauna and flora of the area. We can cook seasonal foods with the group either collecting edible foods from the garden when possible or visiting the local market on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings. Otherwise we paint and enjoy a meal ready prepared.

The classes can be 1.30 hour, half days or a full day. I can create a workshop to fit your needs. We have an apartment for 2 so it is possible to stay overnight.

The house is 7 minutes away from Como by funicular.

RECYCLING WORKSHOP

I recently started collaborating with the local Primary School and the artist Jenny Tallberg. The first lesson was to transform Pukka tea wrappers into art objects using only biodegradable materials. The theme was to create a mandala, which means one with the universe in Sanskrit. Mandalas are generally circular so we used round paper plates and homemade vegan glue with flour and sugar!

MANDALA WORKSHOP

On a beautiful day in Brunate's local park 22 children helped create a natural mandala from previously collected vegetation. There were sweet chestnuts, leaves of all colours, flowers and even a small pumpkin! These children are aged between 6-9 and we repeated the same lesson with the other half of the school, ranging from 9-11 years. These children seemed very excited especially when I spoke English with them!

WORKSHOP IN MARRAKESH

Dear friends,

I invite you to discover the colors of Marrakesh from 19 - 25 September 2010 ... with watercolors and wax crayons we will capture the light and emotions of fascinating places full of history.

We will sleep at Riad Sahara Nour run by a nice French couple. Their hotel has a lot of charm, traditional in style and with a peaceful internal square garden located in the old Medina. Here the cars do not pass and we are far from the touristic places. They have a very good cook who prepares dinner for us every evening. Breakfast and herbal teas are included in the price, alcohol is excluded.

We will paint every day by going to visit the most suggestive points of Marrakesh, among others the famous Majorelle gardens where YSL lived, the Medersa, the old Koranic school and the Bahia palace. It will always be nice to sit at a cafe in the beautiful squares to draw the life that flows around us. Not to be missed is the sunset in the large square, Djemaa-el-Fnaa.

There will always be free time for you to be pampered in a hamam, have a nice massage and wander in the souks and let yourself be tempted by the fascinating objects exhibited by the artisans.

ST.NICHOLAS PRIMARY SCHOOL MORNING WORKSHOP, SIDMOUTH, DEVON

I brought my book on India to inspire primary school children to create their own book. I was very impressed with this beautiful school built in an imaginative and colorful way. The children created their books with enthusiasm, especially when there was glitter to be used. They decorated the pages with ribbons, candy paper, beads and paiettes, all brought by them. In this witty way the children looked at the library books and my pictures to recreate a small piece of Anglo / Indian history.

SIDMOUTH COLLEGE (SECONDARY SCHOOL) AFTERNOON WORKSHOP, DEVON

It was very pleasant to teach a class of various ages with the art teacher Laura Oxley. The children made books inspired by John Kennaway, my great-great-great-grandfather who left for India in 1772. They worked hard despite England playing in the World Cup and the students in the room next to us could watch it. We heard that they were shouting, so congratulations guys!
